Lawsuit Filed For Veterinarian Assistant Attacked By Dog
Under Michigan law, if a person is bitten or attacked while lawfully on premise, the owner or keeper of the dog can be held liable for the injuries suffered. In fact, under Michigan law there are several statute’s that hold a pet owner liable for pain and suffering caused to the victim. This law does apply to one of the most recent case filings our law firm filed on behalf of a woman who was an employee at a veterinarian’s office in Flat Rock, Michigan.
Our client, a 22-year-old girl, was assisting the veterinarian with an x-ray of a canine when suddenly after the x-ray was taken the animal attacked her and bit a part of her upper lip off. She suffered significant damage to her upper lip that required facial reconstructive surgery. In addition to initial surgery, further surgery may be required and she will have to follow up with the plastic surgeon.
Our Michigan dog bite lawyers filed a lawsuit on behalf of the young women in the Wayne County Circuit Court located in Detroit, MI. No trial date has been set by the court.
The claim seeks compensation for damages including her pain and suffering, residual scarring and disfigurement that the dog bite left on her lip. It was filed against the owner of the canine. Her medical expenses and wage loss are currently being paid by a worker’s compensation carrier.
Dog Bite Injuries Requiring Plastic Surgery
Just like this this recent case filing, it is not uncommon for dog bite injuries to result in wounds and/or painful scars that require plastic surgery. In fact, any bite that has punctured the skin deep enough to cause blood will result in a disfiguring scar. The central target area for the face includes the lips, nose, and cheeks.
The severity of the scar all depends on the severity of the injury. Repairing a wound, may consist of closure, removal of damaged tissue and reconstructive surgery. These procedures may include repairing underlying nerve and bone injuries, or sometimes replacing severed tissue by grafting or reattaching tissue with microsurgical repair of tiny blood vessels Such scars that require reconstruction surgery may need multiple operations over a period of years. Other techniques that are commonly used are: Dermabrasion, which is sanding of the skin, pressure scar modification and camouflage make – up.
