$ 290,000 Dog Bite Settlement in Macomb County

Our Macomb County dog bite lawyers recently settled a lawsuit for $ 290,000.00.  Our client was waiting at a bus stop in Roseville, Michigan when a van pulled up to him.  When he approached the van to speak with the driver, a pit bull lunged out of the window and bit him in the face.  He suffered a severe facial laceration from the bite and required emergency medical treatment and surgery.

The Roseville and Warren animal control officers were able to track down defendant with the assistance of the Roseville Police Department.  The dog owner was given a citation for the attack.  The matter was turned over to his homeowners insurance coverage due to the dog attack.

We filed a dog bite lawsuit on his behalf in the Macomb County Circuit Court.  The case sought compensation for the significant injuries, the medical expenses, and for his permanent facial scar.   The parties agreed to accept a mediators recommendation of $ 290,000.00 as a settlement for the case prior to a jury trial.

Children May Require Repeated Plastic Surgery After Dog Bite

Michigan dog bite lawyers at Buckfire & Buckfire, P.C. represent children injured from dog attacks. Often times, dog bites and attacks result in catastrophic injuries to the face, scalp, and neck requiring repeated plastic surgery for persistent scarring. When a dog bite occurs, the victim is entitled under Michigan law to pursue a claim for damages against the dog owner. The psychological damages caused by these attacks can last a lifetime.

Our personal injury law firm has represented dog bite victims and their families for over 40 years throughout the State of Michigan, and has the knowledge, expertise, and experience in handling these types of cases. We have a track record of obtaining size-able Michigan dog bite settlements and jury verdicts for our injured clients and providing the best service possible.

According to reports, 95 percent of the time, the dog was known to the dog bite victim and family, belonging either to the family, friend, or neighbor. Most dog bite attacks occur when a child was playing, petting, or interacting with the dog with no supervision. Dog bites in children are frequent and influenced by the breed-related behavior of dogs, dog owners, children, and parents. Children who are younger than 10 years old represent the high-risk group for dog attacks.

In addition, research has shown that most plastic surgeons treating dog bite injuries in children advise parents about the possible need for further surgery for scar revision, and provide counseling to align expectations with expected surgical outcomes. After suffering injuries from a dog bite attack a child will suffer from high psycho-sociological consequences of trauma that can burden the quality of life of the affected child and his or her family such as low self-esteem and post-traumatic stress disorder.
